Sewing

I have been sewing a lot lately. I found a new website full of patterns and easy instructions. This is a hair accessory with a really great messy fabric headpiece. I think it was originally from a Martha Stewart tutorial. I have mine attached to ribbon, but you can also use a plastic headband and hot glue it or sew it to some elastic.

This is a hair clip I made that could also have been made into a brooch by attaching it to a pin instead. I love that I got to make my own button for the middle. I love that I got to use some of this material, which I found at my grandmother's over 10 years ago.

A 70's inspired bib I made. I really want to give this at a baby shower I am going to this weekend-we'll see.

Little denim shoes I made for the baby shower. There are not completely symmetrical,
but really how much does that matter to a newborn, they don't walk?

I went to Hobby Lobby this morning and picked up some sewing supplies and I have several more items in mind that I want to make. But I think before I do, I really need to organize and clean up my sewing space. It is a wreck!

The Happiness Decision

Several years ago I made the decision to take control of my own happiness rather than waiting for perfect conditions. What I had realized is both: a. there will never be perfect conditions and you waste your life waiting for them and b: life is just as it should be and it is all in how I choose to look at it (note that this is a lot of work for me but getting easier all the time).

This post is some of the little and BIG ways I find joy in my life. I hate thinking of wasting even a single moment worrying (though I am a worrier), ignoring the everyday blessings,  and refusing to see the happiness. Each day, all day long, are a million little ways to appreciate your life....you just have to choose it!!

(Veg) Cream Cheese Roll up

I got this Aromatherapy Pocket Guide this week through Swaptree. I traded Fast Food Nation for it, which is why I love Swaptree. Not only do you get something for basically nothing (except the cost of shipping), but you are not adding any more clutter to your house.

We threw together this snack this weekend. We were stuck in the house because of all the raining and storming. It was really easy (as usual) and really satisfying.

Obviously not rocket science, but like I have said before, sometimes it seems easier to reach for a prepackaged (less healthy) snack.

  1. whole wheat pita bread, halved
  2. spread with vegan cream cheese
  3. drizzle agave
  4. sprinkle a little ground flax seed
  5. a handful of raisins
  6. cinnamon
And then roll it up!

Earth Balance

Thanks to Earth Balance for sending me a fun little box of treats today!

They mailed me both the organic spread and the soy free. I use earth balance so much that I am really wanting to try the soy free since soy interferes with my medication if I consume too much.

They also sent me several $1 off coupons that are good for a year. If anyone is interested in trying any Earth Balance product (they also have peanut butter, shortening and margarine that comes in stick form) I can mail you a coupon. Just contact me about it.

Homemade Peanut Butter

I have finally gotten around to making homemade nut butter with my Blendtec. I would have liked to have made almond butter but I had peanuts and we went with it.

I didn't want to make a huge batch since I still had an open jar of PB that I had bought the previous week at the store, so I only made 1/3 what the recipe called for.

I used:
1 cup roasted peanuts
1 T peanut oil

It took quite awhile to blend but I am wondering if it's because I was making such a small batch. I had to do a lot of stopping and stirring.  I think if it had been fuller the peanuts would have rotated around more and broken up faster.

It tasted really good but was definitely "crunchy" peanut butter. It made a really great peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

I also tried Gardein's Buffalo Wings.

I give them a 6 or 7 out of 10. I have tried other products of theirs and been much more impressed. They were super spicy.
